e² in action

“Collaborative Innovators, innovating collaboratively”

“Building Social Capital”

e² amplifies the many different ways social capital is a rich vein of learning in all local communities.

In this series, e² unpacks unique insights from inspiring stories that make explicit:

1. what community (including schools, NFPs, government agencies) can do to build social capital;

2. how community shapes social capital; and

3. why social capital is important to community.

These conversations represent opportunities to inform aptitudes, mindsets & dispositions.

Sharing a deeper story.

"We're all frail humans trying to get by. Therefore, rather than entitlement and success, we've got to go deeper.... “

In Ep. 7 Rev. Costello shares insights from the pandemic experience. Listen as the narrative unfolds to cover how systemic issues filter down to the local level and conversely how our individual actions (human capital) influence the bigger picture (social capital) .

"That sense of reaching out, of connecting, of genuine deep listening, I think is the foundation for building up that infrastructure (social capital)"

Careers - A fork in the road

"One of the things about the emerging world of work is that reality and our expectations don't meet necessarily."

This latest episode unpacks such gems of wisdom. Dr Mark Scillio is an academic researcher who has written a book on the social narratives that surround career trajectories.

The discussion with Mark helps us understand the influence worldviews play in plotting our paths and the options available to us.

The Only Butt - Ripple effect

"Let it begin with me"!

In an age of spin over substance and talk over walk, how many can confidently lay claim to such words?

Josie Jones can.

Josie has collected a tonne of litter (literally 1000kgs!) on her way to establishing The Only Butt movement.

The fifth instalment of our 'Building Social Capital' series utilises e²'s unique learning models to delve farther into this remarkable story of a Mum, small business owner, graphic designer, photographer, intrepid traveller (pre-Covid19!) and founder of award winning environmental community group, The Only Butt. Discover her story.

"Live authentically to who you are"

Episode 4

This latest encounter showcases another innovative way to actualise learning, thereby amplifying social capital within community, which all progressive societies rely on to thrive. In this interview, Dean reminds us the power of creative agency to engage. To overcome obstacles. To guide us, ever so gradually, towards self determination. Despite its relative simplicity, this is a complex message. With the use of scaffolding from e²'s emergence² model (along with the visual scribing from Capture This), this resource facilitates the understanding that self actualisation is the real goal of any and every learning and educational experience. It helps move from: - theoretical to practical, - abstract to impact, - intangible to tangible, - talk to walk. Now, surely that is engaging for anyone?!

“Go further, Go together”

Episode 3

This latest instalment is a relaxed conversation over coffee with three young men. They vulnerably express the collaborative skills & community minded ethos they displayed during 2020 lockdown in Victoria, Australia. They created an online space to communicate, challenge & counsel each other & their community, building resilience & improving the health of their local community. Social capital in motion.

“Breaking bread together”

Episode 2

After looking at “home”, our second episode changes tact to look at sustenance! In this interview Joel sheds light on how a social enterprise such as Homeground does so much more for ocmmunity than just serve coffee. Complete with several nuggets of gold such as "every young person needs an irrational fan", this was raw, real and rousing! Enjoy .

“Under the one roof”

Episode 1

In this first episode of the series, e² interviews Ms Gemma Bell of Fusion Australia. Gemma is the heart & soul of a youth respite centre that provides much more than mere accommodation to 17 - 25 yr olds on the Mornington Peninsula, in Victoria. Listening to her passion & insights, it is clear that learning really does continue throughout life & that we all experience countless ways to grow each day.

Community Forum: Is gambling harm our blindspot?

An integral part of the e² ethos is to support local community in a voluntary capacity. As a Peninsula Voice Committee member, e² supported and facilitated a forum on 20 May 2021 attended by a community cross section of over 65 participants. The forum had three aims:

  • learn from an amazing panel of presenters,

  • converse about issues relating to Gambling,

  • engage with each other on the topic.

MEANINGFUL LEARNING PODCAST

  • How remote learning provides opportunities for deeper learning and meaningful connections,

  • How education is an ecosystem that exists beyond the classroom or the school building,

  • How we can all take action to have impact and grow together.

FUTURE LEARNING DESIGN PODCAST

Advocating for pedagogical shifts

Some educational models are unreflective of the pressing needs of todays’ students, parents, teachers and society.

Student disengagement and teacher attrition rates continue to rise as we systematically standardise the nuanced, intangible, and creative elements of human interaction.

However meaningful change is possible if the system parameters are flipped. Which is where e² comes in, advocating for educator agency through professional development.
